Technical Writer

Cruz Associates Inc. of Yorktown, VA has an open position for a Technical Writer.  The job location is at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Indian Head, MD in support of U.S. Navy munitions and energetic operations.  Interested applicants should apply by clicking the following link: Technical Writer, completing the online application and uploading their resumes.

Scope:  This position will work closely with customers to develop and maintain Navy specifications and technical manuals.  Technical assignments for this position are diverse and require the ability to work with little supervision.  Duties include technical documentation review, technical editing, and copy preparation.  Position requires technical writing skills and demonstrated ability in the operation of publishing/editorial software to compose text and tables, copy editing, and art work.   

Responsibilities: (Not all encompassing)

  • Analyzes and reviews style and format of technical documents for compliance with Department of Defense standards, specifications, and instructions.
  • Verifies format, style, content arrangement, and other publication requirements for any technical document that does not conform to existing specifications.
  • Ensures conformance to established specifications (style, format, and publication content requirements).  
  • Ensures correct use of grammar, spelling, and punctuation. 
  • Prepares final documents for printing and distribution.    

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred in English, technical writing, education, or journalism (experience may substitute for degree).
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Power Point, and Adobe Pro (2007 and up) required.
  • Secret or Interim Secret security clearance is required.
  • Strong English and/or prior technical editing background desired.
  • Must be highly skilled with keyboard and software programs.
  • Strong attention to detail.

Industrial Maintenance Technician

Cruz Associates Inc. of Yorktown, VA has an open position and is looking for qualified candidates for an Industrial Maintenance Technician I. Scope of Performance: Qualified electrician to support maintenance, repair, and installation of explosive and chemical processing equipment. Technician will work in all explosive and chemical processing areas as determined by management or COR.  Technician shall be subject to physical examinations and certification requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Tasks may include but are not limited to routine maintenance, repair, installation and modification to existing or new process equipment.  This work includes hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, electronics, pipe fitting, and steam fitting.
  • Troubleshoot repairs, modifies, and conducts preventative maintenance on complex electrical, mechanical, and processing systems.
  • Electrical tasks range from bending conduit and pulling wire to wiring 3 phase pumps, motor starters motor control centers, and control wiring.
  • Technician may be required to execute written maintenance procedures and document work completed on record sheets to be archived in data base.

Education and Experience – Required: 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to gain/maintain a Secret Clearance
  • Ability to pass Explosives Handler physical and Respirator Fit test
  • Ability to pass Ammo-18 Certification class
  • Sound technical skills
  • Pipefitting/electrical experience strongly desired
  • Sufficient knowledge of mathematics
  • Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 75 lbs)
  • Closed Captioned Television (CCTV) background encouraged

Test and Evaluation Engineer

Scope:  The Test and Evaluation Engineer shall be responsible for planning, executing, and reporting of developmental flight and ground tests that support research and advanced aviation initiatives for AATD, DoD, Government agencies, and the defense industry.  The FTE coordinates test efforts with acquisition agencies including Program Manager's offices, TRADOC System Managers, contractors, and the user community.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Perform flight engineer test duties both from ground test control locations as well as collection of data in flight in multiple aircraft types.
  • Coordinate and execute ground and flight testing or test-related activities for various research and development activities to include:  airfield or off-site testing activities, test program management, project test support, and program management for test activities.
  • Act as Test Directors and supervise flight test programs and all test flight activities on assigned projects and programs.
  • Collect, reduce, and analyze data from ground and flight tests, and report on testing activities.
  • Author test plans and formal test reports, rendering judgments regarding the relative merits of the tested aircraft or system and making recommendations relative to the intended military mission.

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

 

  • Minimum of 5 years experience working in military aviation is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience with planning and conducting flight tests.
  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering field is required. (Aerospace, Electrical, or Mechanical).
  • Must be capable of participating in aerial flight in a Flight Test Engineering capacity.
  • Secret or Interim Secret security clearance is required.

 

 

Ordnance Worker

Project Integrator II

Scope:  Provides technical, analytical, and program management services in support of Aviation Applied Technology Directorate (AATD) aircraft, mission equipment, and support equipment.  Successful performance requires extensive knowledge of the specific products, aircraft, customers and processes used by the supported organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure clarification of project objectives, preparing engineering support tasks, cost and schedule estimates, coordinating with contractors, suppliers and other Government agencies.
  • Develop training plans & mentorship of team members within technical IPT. The PI works cooperatively with customer, customer representatives and division personnel to ensure that high quality products are delivered on time and within the estimated cost.
  • Coordinate with engineering analysts for structural load tests, RAP tests & modal analysis, and structural load testing to develop a comprehensive analysis for every project and ensure it supports SOFRB/AED scrutiny for safe flight test.
  • Coordinate projects with Technical Support Branch and Flight Test Division.
  • Assists with technical expertise in the development, evaluation and negotiation of AATD or customer procurements as required by other divisions of AATD.
  • Manage execution of assigned engineering support tasks ensuring that technical analysis, testing, reporting, and substantiation is quantifiable and comprehensive to support SOFRB assessment and to support program requirements.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum Education: BS in Engineering Management or Program Management or in a technical or aviation-related discipline; or equivalent experience in a related technical or aviation- related discipline.
  • Minimum of 7 years experience working in military aviation is required; 5 years of which involved acquisition experience (supporting prototype development, testing, qualification, and fielding of aviation systems or mission equipment).

Additional Customer Desired Characteristics:

  • Avionics specialty would be a desired specialty area.
